GAME DAY: Hurricanes Visit Tigers on Family Day Matinee
Medicine Hat, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will play the final of a two-game road trip this afternoon at 2:00pm as they visit the Medicine Hat Tigers at Co-op Place.
The Hurricanes (34-17-2-1) enter after suffering a 4-3 loss on Saturday night in Edmonton to the Oil Kings at Rogers Place. Kooper Gizowski scored twice and added an assist while Brayden Yager scored the other goal in the defeat; Jackson Unger made 27-saves in the loss. It marked the ‘Canes second-straight road loss while ending a franchise-long 10-game road point streak. Lethbridge enters today with a 14-12-1-1 record on the road this season.
The Tigers (36-18-3-1) enter on a three-game winning streak after a 1-0 shutout victory over the Regina Pats at home on Saturday night. Niilopekka Muhonen scored the lone goal in the win while Jordan Switzer made 22-saves for his second shutout of the season. Medicine Hat enters today with a 20-6-2-0 record on home ice, but are 1-1-1-0 in their last three at Co-op Place.
Today will be the sixth of eight meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Tigers this season; Lethbridge has posted a 3-2-0-0 record so far this year, but the home team has won all five previous matchups. 30 Again: The Hurricanes earned their 30th victory of the season on February 2nd with a 4-3 victory in Calgary. It marked the ninth-straight season that the ‘Canes have reached the 30-win plateau adding to their team record for consecutive 30-win seasons. The previous long was five-straight seasons from 1989-90 until 1993-94. Lethbridge is on pace for 42 wins this season which would be the seventh most in team history.
Stingy D: The Hurricanes enter play tonight as the second-best defensive team in the entire WHL allowing just 2.78 goals against per game, trailing Everett who ranks first (2.67 GAPG).
