GAME DAY: Hurricanes Visit Rebels in Pre-Season Match Up
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will make their first road trip of the 2024 ENMAX Pre-Season today as they visit the Red Deer Rebels at 7:00pm at Peavey Mart Centrium.
The Hurricanes (1-0-0-0) enter after opening the pre-season on Tuesday with a 4-1 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena. Kai Anderson scored twice while Landen Ward and Chase Petersen added the others in the win; Brody Rotar and Leif Oaten combined to stop 39 of the 40 shots faced. Lethbridge will play a total of two road pre-season games during their exhibition schedule.
The Rebels (0-1-0-0) opened their pre-season schedule last night with a 1-0 shutout loss in Calgary against the Hitmen at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex. Ben Kindel scored the lone goal for the Hitmen in the game as the Rebels were outshot 40-13 in the contest. Red Deer’s Peyton Shore made 39-saves in the defeat. Red Deer will play a pair of home games in the pre-season – tonight against the Hurricanes and next Friday against Medicine Hat.
Tonight will be the only meeting of the exhibition schedule between the Hurricanes and Rebels; last season, Lethbridge went 4-2-0-0 against Red Deer, including 1-2-0-0 on the road.

VS. REBELS: Tonight will be the only meeting of the pre-season between the Hurricanes and Rebels. Lethbridge posted a 4-2-0-0 record in six meetings against Red Deer last season. The ‘Canes went 3-0-0-0 at home while going 1-2-0-0 in Red Deer at the Peavey Mart Centrium. The two teams will meet eight times during the 2024-2025 regular season.

Ready or Not: The Hurricanes will play a total of four games during their 2024 ENMAX Pre-Season schedule. The ‘Canes will face the Medicine Hat Tigers twice while also facing the Red Deer Rebels and Calgary Hitmen. Lethbridge posted a 2-2-0-0 record in their four-game exhibition schedule in 2023.
Good Start: The ‘Canes opened the 2024 pre-season with a 4-1 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday. Lethbridge was led by Kai Anderson and Tyden Lafournaise who combined for four points while the ‘Canes goaltenders Brody Rotar and Leif Oaten stopped 39 of the 40 shots they faced.
Re-assigned: After their first pre-season game, the Hurricanes re-assigned four players, trimming their exhibition roster to 29-players. The ‘Canes re-assigned goaltenders Brody Rotar (Lethbridge U18 Hurricanes) and Leif Oaten (Edge U18) as well as forwards Matteo Di Stefano (Yale U17) and Jake Evans (Saskatoon Contacts U18). Lethbridge currently has three goaltenders, nine defencemen and 17 forwards.
New Captain: On August 30th, the Hurricanes announced Noah Chadwick as the 32nd Captain in team history. The Toronto Maple Leaf prospect succeeds outgoing captain Joe Arntsen who served for three seasons. Chadwick served as an Alternate Captain in 2023-2024. The Saskatoon, SK, product recorded a career-high 56 points (12g-44a) in 66 games last season.
Duo Signed: On September 2nd, the Hurricanes announced the signings of 2009-born forwards Matteo Di Stefano and Jake Evans to WHL Scholarship and Development Agreements. Evans was a fourth-round pick (84th overall) while Di Stefano was taken in the sixth-round (124th overall) in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.
2023-2024 Review: The ‘Canes finished the 2023-2024 regular season with a 33-28-7-0 record finishing seventh in the Eastern Conference standings. It marked the eighth straight campaign that the ‘Canes recorded 33-or-more victories during the regular season. The ‘Canes went 18-10-6-0 at home and 15-18-1-0 on the road last year.
Canada Campin’: During the summer, Hurricanes defencemen Noah Chadwick and Will Sharpe took part in Hockey Canada camps. Chadwick took part in the National Junior Team Summer Showcase in preparation for the 2025 World Junior Championship while Sharpe participated in the Hlinka Gretzky Selection Camp.
Off-Season Acquisition: On July 10th, the Hurricanes announced the acquisition of 2005-born forward Trae Johnson from the Kelowna Rockets in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft. Johnson, who was previously selected in the second-round of the 2020 draft, appeared in 57 games with the Rockets last season totaling 13 points (3g-10a) along with 77 penalty minutes.
