GAME DAY: Hurricanes Visit Rebels for Final Time
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes open a two-game road trip this afternoon as they visit the Red Deer Rebels at 4:00pm at Marchant Crane Centrium.
The Hurricanes (16-36-0-1) enter after suffering an 8-4 loss on Friday to the Everett Silvertips at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena which ended a three-game home winning streak. Kade Duell, Oli Chenier, Kai Anderson and Easton Daneault scored in the loss while Koen Cleaver made 42-saves. Lethbridge was outshot 50-16 in the game by Everett. The ‘Canes enter tonight with a 6-20-0-0 record on the road this season.
The Rebels (20-28-2-2) enter after a 5-4 overtime victory on Friday over the Central Division leading Medicine Hat Tigers at home. Beckett Hamilton scored twice while Talon Brigley and Nate Yellowaga scored in regulation before Poul Andersen netted the overtime winner with 39-seconds remaining in the extra session. Red Deer was outshot 58-24 in the game by Medicine Hat. The Rebels enter tonight with a 9-15-1-0 record at home this season.
Today will be the seventh of eight meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Rebels while it marks the final visit Lethbridge will make to Red Deer. 34-16-2-1 record after 53 games. The ‘Canes are 1-2-0-0 in the month of February after going 4-9-0-0 record in the month of January. Lethbridge is on pace to record 21 victories this year.
Berge Burying: Hurricanes 19-year-old forward Owen Berge enters tonight red hot of late. The Edmonton, AB, product enters coming off a two-goal performance last Saturday in Saskatoon against the Blades marking his third multi-goal game of the season. Berge has racked up seven goals in his last six games while having collected eight goals in his last eight outings. Since joining the ‘Canes, he has recorded 29 points (17g-12a) in 38 games. He’s on pace for 25 goals and 46 points this season.
Put It in the Win Column: Entering tonight, the Hurricanes have posted a winning record in their last seven games having gone 4-3-0-0 in that span after a 4-2 win in Saskatoon last Saturday. The streak also includes the ‘Canes only three-game winning streak of the season and first since February of 2025. Lethbridge has posted a 3-2-0-0 record in their previous four home games as well.
Surging Special Teams: Lethbridge’s special teams have been strong of late. The ‘Canes power play has gone 15-for-46 (32.6%) over their last 13 games having scored at least one power play goal in nine of those 13 games. The Minnesota product will represent Team East in the game. The WHL Prospects Game will be the first held in over 25-years dating back to the 1999-2000 season.
New Leadership Group: The ‘Canes announced a new leadership group for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season following the WHL Trade Deadline. Owen Berge, Kayden Longley, Carsen Adair and Hudson Kibblewhite will serve as Alternate Captains for the rest of the season while Lethbridge will go without a Captain for the rest of the season.
Midterm Ranked: Three Hurricanes players were ranked by NHL Central Scouting on the Midterm Rankings on January 12th. Kyle Heger (67th), Gavin Lesiuk (177th) and Nathan Maloney (220th) were all ranked among North American skaters. Of the three, Maloney was the lone player not ranked by Central Scouting on the Preliminary Players to Watch List in October.
