GAME DAY: Hurricanes Open Two-Game Homestand Against Blades
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes open a two-game homestand tonight at 7:00pm as they welcome the Saskatoon Blades to the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The Hurricanes (34-18-2-1) enter on a two-game losing streak after suffering a 5-1 loss on Monday afternoon in Medicine Hat against the Tigers. Trae Johnson scored the lone goal in the defeat while Jackson Unger made 23-saves. The ‘Canes enter tonight with a 20-5-1-0 record on home ice this year and are 15-3-0-0 against East Division opponents.
The Blades (28-18-3-4) also enter on a two-game losing streak after dropping a 6-3 decision to the Brandon Wheat Kings on Monday. Tristen Mitchell-McElhone, Rowan Calvert and Kohen Lodge scored in the loss while Ethan McCallum made 33-saves. Saskatoon enters tonight with an 11-12-0-2 record on the road this season.
Tonight will be the third of four meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Blades; Lethbridge has posted a 1-1-0-0 record against Saskatoon this year with the home team having won both contests. He is the third highest scoring active player in the WHL trailing Andrew Cristall and Riley Heidt. His 317 points ranks him tied for 127th all-time in WHL scoring with Ken Priestlay (VIC) and Ben Thomson (MH).
30 Again: The Hurricanes earned their 30th victory of the season on February 2nd with a 4-3 victory in Calgary. It marked the ninth-straight season that the ‘Canes have reached the 30-win plateau adding to their team record for consecutive 30-win seasons. The previous long was five-straight seasons from 1989-90 until 1993-94. Lethbridge is on pace for 42 wins this season which would be the seventh most in team history.
Franchise Record: Lethbridge had their franchise best nine-game road win streak end on February 11th in Calgary with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Hitmen. The Hurricanes previous franchise-long winning streak was seven games set on two occasions in 2004-2005 and 2007-2008. The ‘Canes outscored the opposition 33-16 in the nine games.
