GAME DAY: Hurricanes Open Three-in-Three Against Rebels
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes play the final of a four-game homestand tonight at 7:00pm as they welcome the Red Deer Rebels to the VisitLethbridge.com Arena in the first of a three-in-three weekend.
The Hurricanes (15-10-1-1) enter on a three-game winning streak after earning a 2-1 win against the Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday. Miguel Marques and Chase Petersen scored in the win while Jackson Unger made 17-saves. Lethbridge enters with an 11-2-1-0 record on home ice this season sitting second in the WHL in home victories.
The Rebels (14-12-1-2) enter on a two-game losing streak after suffering a 3-0 shutout loss on Saturday in Swift Current against the Broncos. The Rebels were outshot 45-30 in the contest as Chase Wutzke made 42-saves in the defeat. It marked the fourth shutout loss of the season for Red Deer and their third in the last nine games. Red Deer enters with a 5-10-0-2 record on the road this season.
Tonight will be the fourth of eight meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Rebels; Lethbridge has posted a 2-1-0-0 record against Red Deer this season having posted a 1-0-0-0 record at home in the season series. VS. REBELS: Tonight will be the four of eight meetings during the regular season between the Hurricanes and the Rebels. The Hurricanes are 2-1-0-0 against the Rebels this season after going 4-2-0-0 against Red Deer in 2023-2024. In the last 60 regular season games dating back to February of 2015, the Hurricanes have posted a 41-15-4-1 record against the Rebels. Thru 27: The Hurricanes enter tonight with a 15-10-1-1 record (32 points) on the season after 27 games. The ‘Canes are 11-2-1-0 at home and 4-8-0-1 on the road so far this season. In 2023-2024, Lethbridge had posted a 14-11-2-0 record after 27 games. The ‘Canes were 15-11-2-0 last year after 28 games.
World Junior Trio: The ‘Canes will have three players represent their countries at the upcoming 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa. Brayden Yager will represent Canada for the second straight season. Leo Braillard will also participate for the second-straight year representing Switzerland while Vojtech Port will suit up for Czechia. He was named to the team last year but wasn’t able to compete due to injury.
Jet-Is-In: On December 2nd, the Hurricanes announced the acquisition of Winnipeg Jets prospect Brayden Yager from the Moose Jaw Warriors. The former first-round NHL draft pick made is Hurricanes debut against the Warriors on December 3rd and scored his first goal as a ‘Cane. Yager has 284 career WHL points (116g-168a) in 235 career games. He has recorded four points (1g-3a) in two games with Lethbridge.
South Paw: The ‘Canes acquired goaltender Jackson Unger from the Warriors in a blockbuster trade along with Brayden Yager on December 2nd. The Calgary, AB, product made 18-saves in his ‘Canes debut against the Warriors on December 3rd. Unger has appeared in 127 regular season games in his career posting a record of 63-49-6-3. Unger joined Yager and Vojtech Port on the Lethbridge roster who were apart of the Warriors title last season. He is 3-0-0-0 with a 2.33 GAA and .905 SV% since joining the Hurricanes.
Climbing Ranks: Overage defenceman Logan McCutcheon suited up in his 250th career WHL game on November 16th against Victoria. He has appeared in 258 career games for the Hurricanes as 15th all-time in team history – one games shy of Ben Wright for 14th (259). The former third-round draft pick (60th overall) in the 2019 draft is also ranked tied for seventh all-time in defenceman scoring in ‘Canes history with Terry Hollinger (126) – he is two points shy of Luc Theoret (128) for sixth all-time in defenceman scoring.
Century Mark: Hurricanes Captain Noah Chadwick reached the 100-point plateau with a goal against the Warriors on December 3rd. The Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick became just the 13th defenceman in Hurricanes history to reach the century mark. Chadwick has appeared in 171 career games with the ‘Canes amassing 101 points (26g-75a) along with 62 penalty minutes in his WHL career. He ranks 13th all-time in defenceman scoring in ‘Canes history, one point shy of Lee Sorochan (102) for 12th.
World Junior Manager: Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt is leading the 2025 Canadian National Junior Team for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa. It is the second straight year Anholt has served in the role after leading the 2024 tournament which saw Canada eliminated in the quarter final. Hurricanes alumnus Brent Seabrook is also serving in the management group.
Home Sweet Home: In the month of December, the Hurricanes will play six of their nine games at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena. So far this season, the ‘Canes have posted a 11-2-1-0 record in 14 games at home. Dating back to last year, the Hurricanes have posted a 21-6-5-0 record in their last 32 games on home ice amassing a win percentage of .656.
