GAME DAY: Hurricanes Open Stretch of Road Games in Medicine Hat Against Tigers
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes open a stretch of five of their next six games on the road tonight as they visit the Medicine Hat Tigers at 7:00pm at Co-op Place.
The Hurricanes (15-33-0-1) enter on a season-long three-game winning streak after earning a 4-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Friday at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena. Owen Berge scored his first WHL hat-trick in the win while Kai Anderson buried a shorthanded goal. Leif Oaten made 27-saves in the victory. Lethbridge ended their four-game homestand with a 3-1-0-0 record. The ‘Canes enter tonight with a 5-18-0-0 record on the road as they look to end a 10-game road losing streak.
The Tigers (33-8-3-3) enter with a 2-2-0-1 record in their last five games after earning a 4-1 win over the Saskatoon Blades on Tuesday night. Liam Ruck, Markus Ruck, Kade Stengrim and Kadon McCann scored in the victory while Jordan Switzer made 15-saves. Medicine Hat outshot Saskatoon 40-16 in the contest. The Tigers enter tonight with a 19-2-1-1 record at home this season as they are tied for the most home wins in the WHL this season with the Everett Silvertips.

Thru 49: The Hurricanes enter tonight with a 15-33-0-1 record (31 points) on the season after 49 games. The ‘Canes are 10-15-0-1 at home and 5-18-0-0 on the road. In 2024-2025, Lethbridge had posted a
31-16-1-1 record after 49 games. The ‘Canes have posted a 4-8-0-0 record in the month of January. Lethbridge is on pace to record 21 victories this year.
Three Straight: The ‘Canes enter tonight having won three-straight games after earning a 4-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Friday. It marks the first time all season – and the first time since February of 2025 – that the ‘Canes have won three consecutive games. It is the just the second time all season the Lethbridge has won multiple games in a row with the only other time coming November 12th and 14th on their BC road trip.
Surging Special Teams: Lethbridge’s special teams have been strong of late. The ‘Canes power play has gone 11-for-33 (33.3%) over their last nine games having scored at least one power play goal in seven of those nine games. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes penalty kill has gone 42-for-51 (82.4%) over the last 14 contests keeping the opponent without a power play goal in six of those 13 games.
Top Prospect: Hurricanes defenceman Kyle Heger was named as one of 15 rearguards from the WHL to take part in the 2026 WHL Prospects Game in Langley on February 18th at the Langley Events Centre. The Minnesota product will represent Team East in the game. The WHL Prospects Game will be the first held in over 25-years dating back to the 1999-2000 season. Heger has seven points (2g-5a) along with four penalty minutes in 10 games with the Hurricanes.
New Leadership Group: The ‘Canes announced a new leadership group for the remainder of the 2025-2026 season following the WHL Trade Deadline. Owen Berge, Kayden Longley, Carsen Adair and Hudson Kibblewhite will serve as Alternate Captains for the rest of the season while Lethbridge will go without a Captain for the rest of the season.
Midterm Ranked: Three Hurricanes players were ranked by NHL Central Scouting on the Midterm Rankings on January 12th. Kyle Heger (67th), Gavin Lesiuk (177th) and Nathan Maloney (220th) were all ranked among North American skaters. Of the three, Maloney was the lone player not ranked by Central Scouting on the Preliminary Players to Watch List in October.
All Hail Oli: Lethbridge announced the acquisition of 2007-born forward Oli Chenier from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick in 2026 on January 5th. Chenier appeared in 148 regular season games with the Raiders amassing 48 points (17g-31a) over three seasons. The Winnipeg, MB product was originally a third-round draft pick by Prince Albert in 2022.
OT Perfection: The ‘Canes enter tonight having posted a perfect 5-0 record this season in games decided in overtime this season. Lethbridge has posted a 99-88 record with 96 ties all-time in overtime in their history. The five OT victories this season is tied for second in the WHL lead with the Medicine Hat Tigers, one back of the Prince George Cougars who have six OT wins this year.
