GAME DAY: Hurricanes Open New Year Against Broncos
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes open 2026 tonight as they welcome the Swift Current Broncos at 7:00pm at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The Hurricanes (11-25-0-1) enter on a three-game losing streak after suffering a 7-1 loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Tuesday. Carsen Adair scored the lone goal in the game while Koen Cleaver made 30-saves. Lethbridge fell to 6-6-0-1 in their last 13 games at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena. The ‘Canes enter tonight sitting with a 6-11-0-1 record at home this year.
The Broncos (8-26-1-0) enter on a season-long 15-game losing streak after suffering their second-straight shutout loss on Tuesday falling 4-0 at home to the Brandon Wheat Kings. Archer Cooke made 33-saves in the defeat as it was the sixth time this season Swift Current had been shutout. The Broncos enter tonight with a 2-17-0-0 record on the road this season.
Tonight will be the second of four meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Broncos and the first of a home-and-home set this weekend; Lethbridge has posted an 0-1-0-0 record against Swift Current so far this year. The overage forward Petruk had appeared in 19 games split between the Langley Rivermen and Vernon Vipers while the 19-year-old Leonard had skated in 24 games with the Prince George Spruce Kings this season. The duo both made their ‘Cane debuts on December 12th against the Saskatoon Blades at SaskTel Centre.
Worm Dealt: On Sunday, December 7th, the Hurricanes announced the trade of captain Logan Wormald to the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for a third-round draft pick in 2026 (WEN), a third-round draft pick in 2026 (SPO), a fourth-round draft pick in 2026 (LET) and a fourth-round draft pick in 2028 (SPO). Wormald finished his career having recorded 243 points (99g-144a) in 266 career games finishing 17th all-time in points, 16th all-time in goals, 13th all-time in assists and 12th all-time in games played in ‘Canes history.
