GAME DAY: Hurricanes Open Final Homestand of Season Against Rebels
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes open their final homestand of the 2025-2026 season tonight at 7:00pm as they welcome the Red Deer Rebels at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The Hurricanes (17-44-3-1) enter with a 1-7-2-0 record in their last 10 games after a 6-5 overtime loss on Saturday in Medicine Hat to the Tigers at Co-op Place. Kai Anderson scored twice while Tomas Malinek, Oli Chenier and Kayden Longley added the other goals; Leif Oaten made 38-saves in the loss. Lethbridge enters tonight with a 11-20-0-1 record at home this season.
The Rebels (25-34-4-2) enter with a 2-0-2-0 record in their last four games after a 6-5 overtime loss on Saturday to the Calgary Hitmen at Marchant Crane Centrium. Kalder Varga had a hat-trick while Cameron Kuzma and Landon MacSwain scored the others in the loss; Matthew Kondro made 31-saves in the defeat. Red Deer enters with a 12-17-1-2 record on the road this year.
Tonight will be the final of eight meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Rebels; Lethbridge has posted a 1-5-1-0 record in the seven games so far this season against Red Deer while going 0-3-0-0 at home. Streak Snapped: Following a loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors on March 7th, the Hurricanes were officially eliminated from contention for the 2026 WHL Playoffs. It marks the first time since the 2014-2015 season that the ‘Canes will not qualify for the post-season, ending a stretch of nine straight seasons booking a ticket to the WHL Playoffs. The streak of nine-straight years in the playoffs was a franchise record for the ‘Canes.
Rookie Standout: Hurricanes forward Easton Daneault was named the WHL Rookie of the Week last week after amassing six ponts (1g-5a) in two games against Regina and Moose Jaw. The most PIMS in a single season since the new rules in 2006-2007 was recorded by Cason Machacek in 2010-2011 when he racked up 183 PIMS while the all-time single-season record is held by Brantt Myhres who had 359 penalty minutes in the 1991-1992 season.
Berge Burying: Hurricanes 19-year-old forward Owen Berge enters tonight having racked up 13 goals in his last 20 games – a 44-goal pace over a full 68-game schedule. The Edmonton, AB, product leads the ‘Canes with 23 goals this year while sitting second in points with 46. Since joining the Hurricanes, Berge has collected 41 points (22g-19a) in 50 games. He was acquired for an eighth-round pick in October.
Surging Special Teams: Lethbridge’s special teams have been better of late. The ‘Canes power play has gone 23-for-88 (26.1%) in their last 25 games while having gone 6-for-23 (26.1%) in their last seven contests.
