GAME DAY: Hurricanes Look to Rebound Against Rebels in Final Meeting of Season
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will open a two-game homestand tonight at 7:00pm as they welcome the Red Deer Rebels at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The Hurricanes (32-16-2-1) enter having had their three-game winning streak end on Tuesday with a 3-2 overtime loss in Calgary to the Hitmen. Luke Cozens and Brayden Yager scored in the loss while Jackson Unger made 37-saves. Lethbridge enters tonight with an 18-5-1-0 record at home this season and are 13-2-1-0 in their last 16 games.
The Rebels (20-26-4-2) enter with a 4-1-0-0 record in their last five games after earning a 4-1 victory over the Regina Pats at home on Tuesday. Beckett Hamilton, Derek Thurston, Talon Brigley and Matthew Gard scored in the win while Chase Wutzke made 26-saves. The Rebels enter tonight with a 7-18-1-2 record on the road this season.
Tonight will be the final of eight meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Rebels; Lethbridge has posted a 6-1-0-0 record against Red Deer in the first seven contests. VS. REBELS: Tonight will be the final of eight meetings during the regular season between the Hurricanes and the Rebels. The Hurricanes are 6-1-0-0 against the Rebels this season after going 4-2-0-0 against Red Deer in 2023-2024. The Winnipeg Jets prospect became the 170th player in WHL history to reach the 300-point plateau having amassed 310 points (125g-185a) in 249 career games. He is the third highest scoring active player in the WHL trailing Andrew Cristall and Riley Heidt. His 310 points ranks him tied for 143rd all-time in WHL scoring with Jordan Eberle, Tyson Baillie and Jagger Firkus.
30 Again: The Hurricanes earned their 30th victory of the season on February 2nd with a 4-3 victory in Calgary. It marked the ninth-straight season that the ‘Canes have reached the 30-win plateau adding to their team record for consecutive 30-win seasons. The previous long was five-straight seasons from 1989-90 until 1993-94. Lethbridge is on pace for 44 wins this season which would be the seventh most in team history.
Stingy D: The Hurricanes enter play tonight as the second-best defensive team in the entire WHL allowing just 2.75 goals against per game, trailing Everett who ranks first (2.70 GAPG).
