GAME DAY: Hurricanes Look to Extend Win Streak Against Blades
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes play the third of a four-game homestand tonight at 7:00pm as they welcome the Saskatoon Blades to the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The Hurricanes (14-10-1-1) enter on a two-game winning streak after earning a 4-3 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday. Leo Braillard scored twice while Noah Chadwick and Logan Wormald added the others; Jackson Unger made 32-saves in the win. Lethbridge enters tonight with a 10-2-1-0 record at home this season while having gone 8-3-0-0 against East Division opponents.
The Blades (17-7-2-2) enter on a three-game losing streak after falling 6-4 in Medicine Hat to the Tigers on Tuesday night. Jordan Martin, Zach Olsen, Ben Riche and Brandon Lisowsky scored in the defeat while Evan Gardner made 37-saves. Saskatoon enters tonight 6-7-0-1 record on the road this season while having gone 1-4-0-0 in their last five away from home.
Tonight will be the second of four meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Blades; Lethbridge has posted an 0-1-0-0 record against Saskatoon this season. World Junior Trio: The ‘Canes will have three players represent their countries at the upcoming 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa. Brayden Yager will represent Canada for the second straight season. Leo Braillard will also participate for the second-straight year representing Switzerland while Vojtech Port will suit up for Czechia. He was named to the team last year but wasn’t able to compete due to injury.
Jet-Is-In: On December 2nd, the Hurricanes announced the acquisition of Winnipeg Jets prospect Brayden Yager from the Moose Jaw Warriors. The former first-round NHL draft pick made is Hurricanes debut against the Warriors on December 3rd and scored his first goal as a ‘Cane. Yager has 284 career WHL points (116g-168a) in 235 career games. He has recorded four points (1g-3a) in two games with Lethbridge.
South Paw: The ‘Canes acquired goaltender Jackson Unger from the Warriors in a blockbuster trade along with Brayden Yager on December 2nd. The Calgary, AB, product made 18-saves in his ‘Canes debut against the Warriors on December 3rd. Unger has appeared in 127 regular season games in his career posting a record of 63-49-6-3. Unger joined Yager and Vojtech Port on the Lethbridge roster who were apart of the Warriors title last season. He is 2-0-0-0 with a 3.00 GAA and .893 SV% since joining the Hurricanes.
Climbing Ranks: Overage defenceman Logan McCutcheon suited up in his 250th career WHL game on November 16th against Victoria. He has appeared in 257 career games for the Hurricanes as 15th all-time in team history – two games shy of Ben Wright for 14th. The former third-round draft pick (60th overall) in the 2019 draft is also ranked eighth all-time in defenceman scoring in ‘Canes history sitting one point back of Terry Hollinger (126) for seventh in team history.
Century Mark: Hurricanes Captain Noah Chadwick reached the 100-point plateau with a goal against the Warriors on December 3rd. The Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick became just the 13th defenceman in Hurricanes history to reach the century mark. Chadwick has appeared in 170 career games with the ‘Canes amassing 101 points (26g-75a) along with 62 penalty minutes in his WHL career. He ranks 13th all-time in defenceman scoring in ‘Canes history, one point shy of Lee Sorochan (102) for 12th.
World Junior Manager: Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt is leading the 2025 Canadian National Junior Team for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship in Ottawa. It is the second straight year Anholt has served in the role after leading the 2024 tournament which saw Canada eliminated in the quarter final. Hurricanes alumnus Brent Seabrook is also serving in the management group.
