GAME DAY: Hurricanes Look to Bounce Back Against Hitmen
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will look to return to the win column tonight at 6:00pm as they welcome the Calgary Hitmen to the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The Hurricanes (41-19-3-2) enter on a nine-game point streak after suffering a 6-5 overtime loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday. Miguel Marques and Kooper Gizowski each scored twice while Noah Chadwick added the other in the losing cause; Jackson Unger made 28-saves in the defeat. Lethbridge enters tonight 7-0-1-1 in their last nine games while sitting with a 24-6-2-0 record on home ice this season.
The Hitmen (42-15-3-3) enter on a four-game winning streak after earning a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday at Rogers Place. Hunter Aura, Brandon Gorzynski and Carson Wetsch scored in the win while Daniel Hauser won his 121st career game with a 26-save performance. Calgary enters tonight with a 9-0-0-1 record in their last ten games while going 17-11-2-2 on the road.
Tonight will be the final of eight head-to-head meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Hitmen; Lethbridge has posted a 2-4-1-0 record in the previous seven games while going 2-1-1-0 in their last four games. 40+ Wins: The Hurricanes earned their 40th victory of the season on March 7th with a 3-1 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings. It’s just the eighth time in the ‘Canes 38-seasons in Lethbridge that they’ve earned 40+ wins and the first time since 2018-2019. Lethbridge enters on pace for 42 victories this year which would be the seventh most in team history.
80-Point Club: With a 5-1 victory on March 1st in Regina against the Pats, the Hurricanes reached the 80-point mark on the season. His 331 points ranks him tied for 103rd all-time in WHL scoring tied with former Hurricane Shane Willis.
Stingy D: The Hurricanes enter play tonight as the third-best defensive team in the entire WHL allowing just 2.80 goals against per game, trailing Calgary (2.65) and Everett (2.69) GAPG. Lethbridge has allowed three-or-less goals in 22 of 30 games while allowing two-or-less in 18 of those 30 games. The ‘Canes have allowed three-or-less goals against in 31 of their last 42 games.
