GAME DAY: Hurricanes Kick Off Three-Game Homestand Against Thunderbirds
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes open a three-game homestand tonight as they welcome the Seattle Thunderbirds to the ENMAX Centre at 7:00pm.
The Hurricanes (7-5-1-0) enter after a 4-3 loss on Sunday in Calgary to the Hitmen at Scotiabank Saddledome. Blake Swetlikoff, Tyson Zimmer and Dustin Renas scored in the loss while Brady Smith made 31-saves. Lethbridge outshot Calgary 37-35 in the contest. The ‘Canes enter tonight with a 4-0-1-0 record in five home games this season having won their last two games on home-ice.
The Thunderbirds (7-1-0-0) enter on a six-game winning streak after earning a 5-2 victory on Wednesday in Red Deer against the Rebels. Gracyn Sawchyn scored twice while Bryce Pickford, Coster Dunn and Antonio Martorama scored the others in the win. Seattle enters with a perfect 5-0-0-0 road record so far this season as they will play game four of a six-game Central Division road trip tonight.
Tonight will be the only meeting on the season between the Hurricanes and Thunderbirds and it will be Seattle’s first visit to Lethbridge since January 2020. VS. THUNDERBIRDS: Tonight will be the only meeting on the season between the Hurricanes and Thunderbirds. Lethbridge dropped a 3-2 overtime loss last season in Seattle in their lone meeting. The ‘Canes have posted an all-time record of 15-22-5-2 with three ties against the Thunderbirds while Lethbridge has posted an 11-8-2-0 record with three ties all-time at the ENMAX Centre. Immediate Impact: After being claimed off CHL waivers from the QMJHL’s Shawinigan Cataractes, 2005-born import forward Leo Braillard has been great in two games for the Hurricanes collecting four assists. He had two helpers in his ‘Canes debut on Friday at the ENMAX Centre. Braillard has eight points (2g-6a) in nine CHL games this season.

Canada Coach: Hurricanes Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager Matt Anholt was named as an Assistant Coach for Hockey Canada for the upcoming World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Anholt will serve on the coaching staff for Canada Red. It is the second straight season the ‘Canes have had a coach for the U17’s after Ryan Aasman was a Video Coach last year.
Great Start: After returning from the Minnesota Wild’s Training Camp, goaltender Harrison Meneghin has been tremendous for the Hurricanes. The South Surrey, BC, product has posted a 7-3-1-0 record in 11 starts posting a 2.03 goals against average and a .937 save percentage with one shutout. Meneghin has posted a 4-0-1-0 record on home-ice with a 0.98 GAA and a .970 SV%.
