GAME DAY: Hurricanes Host Tigers to Open Massive Weekend
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes continue a six-game homestand tonight at 7:00pm as they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers to the VisitLethbridge.com Arena for the final time this regular season.
The Hurricanes (41-19-2-2) enter on a four-game winning streak and an eight-game point streak after a 5-3 victory on Wednesday over the Prince Albert Raiders. Kooper Gizowski scored twice, including the game-winning goal with 31-seconds left in regulation, while Leo Braillard, Logan Wormald and Logan McCutcheon scored the others; Jackson Unger made 16-saves in the win. Lethbridge enters tonight with a 23-6-1-0 record on home ice this season while having gone 15-12-1-0 against Central Division opponents.
The Tigers (43-17-3-1) enter on a six-game winning streak after a 7-1 win last Friday against the Red Deer Rebels at the Peavey Mart Centrium. Ryder Ritchie potted a hat-trick while Josh Van Mulligen, Liam Ruck, Hunter St. Martin and Gavin McKenna scored the others in the win; Harrison Meneghin made 29-saves in the victory. Medicine Hat enters tonight with a 20-10-1-1 record on the road this season as they sit second in the WHL in road victories. The Tigers are 16-11-1-0 against the Central Division this year.
Tonight will be the seventh of eight meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Tigers; Lethbridge has posted a 3-3-0-0 record this year as the home team has been victorious in all six prior meetings. 40+ Wins: The Hurricanes earned their 40th victory of the season on March 7th with a 3-1 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings. It’s just the eighth time in the ‘Canes 38-seasons in Lethbridge that they’ve earned 40+ wins and the first time since 2018-2019. His 329 points ranks him tied for 105th all-time in WHL scoring tied with former Hurricane Nathan Barrett and Al Hillier (Flin Flon, WCHL)
Stingy D: The Hurricanes enter play tonight as the third-best defensive team in the entire WHL allowing just 2.78 goals against per game, trailing Calgary (2.65) and Everett (2.69) GAPG. Lethbridge has allowed three-or-less goals in 22 of 29 games while allowing two-or-less in 18 of those 29 games. The ‘Canes have allowed three-or-less goals against in 31 of their last 41 games.
