GAME DAY: Hurricanes Host Hitmen on Halloween Howler
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes continue a three-game homestand as they welcome the Calgary Hitmen to the ENMAX Centre tonight at 7:00pm in the B93 Halloween Howler.
The Hurricanes (8-5-1-0) enter after earning a convincing 5-0 win over the defending WHL Champion Seattle Thunderbirds on Wednesday. Kooper Gizowski scored twice while Elias Knoester, Tyson Zimmer and Leo Braillard added singles; Harrison Meneghin made 22-saves for his second shutout of the season. Lethbridge enters sitting atop the Central Division and have posted a 5-0-1-0 record on home-ice this year.
The Hitmen (3-7-2-0) have been idle since their come-from-behind win over the Hurricanes on Sunday at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Oliver Tulk, Sean Tschigerl, Carson Wetsch and Carter Yakemchuk scored in the victory which saw Calgary score three unanswered goals in the third period. The Hitmen enter with a 1-6-1-0 record on the road this season.
Tonight will be the third of seven meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Hitmen; Lethbridge has posted a 1-1-0-0 record against Calgary so far this season. The Hurricanes had the second-most players listed among WHL teams.
Harry at Home: Hurricanes netminder Harrison Meneghin has been terrific this season, especially at home. The 19-year-old who attended Minnesota Wild training camp in September has posted a 5-0-1-0 record on home-ice this year posting a staggering 0.73 goals against average and a .973 save percentage with two shutouts. Meneghin has posted a 1.86 GAA and a .941 SV% on the season.
Killin’ It: Entering tonight, the Hurricanes have killed off 50 of 57 penalties taken so far this season for a kill rate of 87.7% through the first 14 outings. Last year, the ‘Canes held the eighth-best PK including the top ranked home penalty kill. So far, Lethbridge has the fourth-best ranked penalty kill in the WHL this year.
