GAME DAY: Hurricanes End 2025 Against Oil Kings
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will end the calendar year of 2025 tonight as they welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings at 7:00pm at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The Hurricanes (11-24-0-1) enter on a two-game losing streak after suffering a 5-2 loss in Edmonton against the Oil Kings on Sunday afternoon. Jake Evans scored his first WHL goal in the game while Easton Daneault added the other in the loss; Leif Oaten made a career-high 41-saves in the defeat. The ‘Canes fell to 1-5-0-0 in their last six games. Lethbridge enters tonight with a 6-10-0-1 at home this year while going 6-5-0-1 in their last 12 at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The Oil Kings (23-7-3-1) enter on a two-game winning streak after their 5-2 victory over the Hurricanes on Sunday at Rogers Place. Miroslav Holinka scored his first WHL hat-trick, including the game-winning goal, while Lukas Sawchyn and Dylan Dean added the other goals in the win; Parker Snell made 14-saves in the game. Edmonton enters tonight with a 13-5-1-0 record on the road this year.
Tonight will be the fifth of eight meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Oil Kings; Lethbridge has posted a 1-3-0-0 record against Edmonton this season while going 1-1-0-0 on home ice. Veteran Adds: On Friday, December 12th, the Hurricanes signed veterans WHLers Andrew Petruk and Fraser Leonard from the British Columbia Hockey League. The overage forward Petruk had appeared in 19 games split between the Langley Rivermen and Vernon Vipers while the 19-year-old Leonard had skated in 24 games with the Prince George Spruce Kings this season. The duo both made their ‘Cane debuts on December 12th against the Saskatoon Blades at SaskTel Centre.
Worm Dealt: On Sunday, December 7th, the Hurricanes announced the trade of captain Logan Wormald to the Spokane Chiefs in exchange for a third-round draft pick in 2026 (WEN), a third-round draft pick in 2026 (SPO), a fourth-round draft pick in 2026 (LET) and a fourth-round draft pick in 2028 (SPO). Wormald finished his career having recorded 243 points (99g-144a) in 266 career games finishing 17th all-time in points, 16th all-time in goals, 13th all-time in assists and 12th all-time in games played in ‘Canes history.
