GAME DAY: Hurricanes Begin Homestand Against Warriors
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes will begin a season-long five-game homestand tonight at 7:30pm MT as they welcome the Moose Jaw Warriors to the ENMAX Centre.
The Hurricanes (21-14-0-1) enter after earning a 4-2 victory on Sunday in Edmonton over the Oil Kings. Tristan Zandee, Cole Shepard, Tristen Doyle and Brayden Edwards scored in the win while Harrison Meneghin made 31-saves. Lethbridge enters tonight with a 7-3-0-0 record in their last ten games and are 11-6-0-1 on home ice this year. The ‘Canes sit fifth in the Eastern Conference with 43 points.
The Warriors (22-13-0-0) enter having earned a 6-2 victory in Brandon over the Wheat Kings on New Years Eve. Jagger Firkus scored twice while Ryder Korczak, Atley Calvert, Eric Alarie and Harper Lolacher add the others in the win. Moose Jaw has posted an 11-5-0-0 record on the road this season. Warriors sit fourth in the Eastern Conference with 44 points.
Tonight will be the second of four meetings on the season between the Hurricanes and Warriors; Lethbridge has posted an 0-1-0-0 record against Moose Jaw so far this year after suffering a 4-3 defeat back in October. Meneghin enters tonight with a 17-7-0-1 record, sitting four wins shy of becoming the 14th goalie in ‘Canes history to reach 20-wins in a season – he would become just the fourth rookie goaltender to reach that mark. He enters tonight 15-4-0-1 record in his last 20 starts.
Faceoff King: Jett Jones enters tonight as the WHL leader in faceoffs taken this season with 924 draws taken, averaging 25.7 draws per game. Jones has won 20+ faceoffs in a game four times this season, becoming the first Hurricanes centre-man to accomplish that feat on four occasions since the WHL began tracking faceoffs in 2017, surpassing Jake Leschyshyn and Giorgio Estephan – who both did it twice.
