Hurricanes Announce Boudreau and Beyak as Celebrity Dinner Guests
LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club is excited to announce that Bruce Boudreau and Dennis Beyak will be the special guests at the 2025 Hurricanes Celebrity Dinner, taking place on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Sandman Signature Lethbridge Lodge.
Bruce Boudreau, a former NHL head coach with over 1,000 games behind the bench, is widely regarded for his offensive coaching style and charismatic personality. Over his career, he led the Washington Capitals, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild, and Vancouver Canucks, winning the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s Coach of the Year in 2008. As of 2021, he holds the second-highest winning percentage among NHL coaches with at least 900 games.
Before transitioning to coaching, Boudreau had an impressive playing career. He was drafted 42nd overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1975 and played 141 NHL games with the Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks, as well as 30 games in the WHA with the Minnesota Fighting Saints. He spent most of his 20-season playing career in the AHL, amassing an incredible 799 points in 634 games, making him one of the most prolific minor league scorers of all time.
Boudreau also owns two junior hockey teams, the Minnesota Blue Ox and Hershey Cubs, and remains involved in the development of young players. He founded the Golden Horseshoe Hockey School, a youth summer hockey camp, which he continues to coach during the off-season. Additionally, he has worked as an NHL Network analyst and authored a memoir, Gabby: Confessions of a Hockey Lifer.
Dennis Beyak, a legendary hockey broadcaster, is best known as the former voice of the Winnipeg Jets on TSN. With a career spanning over five decades, Beyak has been a staple in Canadian hockey broadcasting. Born and raised in Winnipegosis, Manitoba, he began his broadcasting journey in 1970 at CFAR Radio, calling games for the Flin Flon Bombers of the Western Canada Hockey League (WCHL).
Beyak’s extensive experience in the Western Hockey League (WHL) includes play-by-play roles with the Saskatoon Blades, Victoria Cougars, and Seattle Thunderbirds. Beyond broadcasting, he served as assistant general manager for the Saskatoon Blades from 1981 to 1990, general manager for the Seattle Thunderbirds from 1992 to 1994, and general manager for the Tri-City Americans from 1994 to 1995. His leadership was recognized in 1989 when he was named the WHL Executive of the Year.
In the National Hockey League (NHL), Beyak provided play-by-play coverage for the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs before becoming the voice of the Winnipeg Jets upon their return in 2011, a position he held until his retirement in 2022. His contributions extend to international hockey, having called numerous IIHF World Junior Championship tournaments and other global hockey events, further cementing his reputation as one of the most respected voices in the sport.
“We are thrilled to welcome both Bruce and Dennis to this year’s Celebrity Dinner,” said Hurricanes General Manager of Business Operations, Terry Huisman. “Their experience, stories, and passion for the game will make for a fantastic evening as we celebrate our team and its supporters.”
The annual Celebrity Dinner serves as a key fundraising event for the Hurricanes, supporting the team’s operations and community initiatives. The evening will feature a VIP reception, dinner, live and silent auctions, and a hot stove with Boudreau and Beyak.
