2024 ENMAX Training Camp – Day 4 Recap
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes concluded their 2024 ENMAX Training Camp on Sunday at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
The ‘Canes opened with their final group practices in the morning before holding their final scrimmage of camp in the afternoon. Team Blue needed late game heroics, but they earned a 3-2 victory as both teams finished with a 2-2 record in camp.
It was a scoreless first period which saw good looks for both teams, but neither team was able to find the net. Both Brody Rotar who started for Team Blue and Koen Cleaver who started for Team Red were sharp in the opening 20-minutes. Rotar turned aside all 10 shots he faced in the period while Cleaver stopped all 11 shots that were directed his way resulting in the first scoreless period during camp.
The teams switched goaltenders for the second-half of the game with Ayden Murphy entering the game for Team Blue and Leif Oaten for Team Red. At the 4:12 mark, Team Red opened the scoring on an unassisted goal by Dawson Spence who pick-pocketed a defender before rifling a shot low-blocker to make it 1-0. Two-minutes later, Team Blue answered with two goals in a 13-second span. First, Chase Petersen tied the game with his third goal of camp to make it 1-1; assists were credited to Kai Anderson and Jake Evans. On the very next shift, Team Blue pulled in front when Kale Breton buried his first goal of the camp to put Team Blue in front 2-1; Owen Nelson and Easton Daneault picked up the helpers. With 5:38 remaining in the game, Team Red responded to tie the game as Gavin Lesiuk slipped one by Murphy to even the score 2-2; Grady Taylor and Tyden Lafournaise were handed the assists on the equalizing goal. Late in the game, Team Red got into penalty trouble with two penalties to Taylor for hooking and Cohen Pentney for delay of game nine-second apart put Team Blue on a late two-man advantage. With just 38-seconds left in the game, Kale Tipler ripped home a shot from the top of the right circle to give Team Blue the lead 3-2; Evans and Anderson each picked up their second assists of the game on the tally. Team Red pulled the goaltender but couldn’t find an equalizer as Team Blue hung on for the Day 4 victory.
Both teams finished training camp with a 2-2 record with Team Red winning the first two games and Team Blue winning the last two games. The ‘Canes will take a day off on Monday before opening the 2024 ENMAX Pre-Season on Tuesday at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
