2024 ENMAX Training Camp – Day 2 Recap
Lethbridge, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes continued their 2024 ENMAX Training Camp with Day 2 at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena on Friday.
The ‘Canes once again opened with group practices followed by dry-land training in the morning before holding their second scrimmage of the camp. Team Red was full value once again as they earned their second-straight victory on Friday downing Team Blue by a 6-3 score.
It didn’t take long for Team Red to break the scoreless tie as just 1:15 into the game Leo Braillard roofed a shot passed Team Blue starting goaltender Ayden Murphy on a breakaway to give Team Red a 1-0 lead; Trae Johnson earned the lone assist on the goal. Team Red scored again just 28-second later when Eric Berger buried his first of camp to quickly open a 2-0 advantage; Cameron Norrie and North McKee were credited with the assists on the tally. Before the half-way point of the period, Team Blue cut the lead in half on a beautiful individual effort by defenceman Reid Soper as he cut wide before slipping home a back-hand goal beating Leif Oaten to make it 2-1 on the unassisted goal. Team Blue drew even just over three-minutes later when Brayden Edwards buried his first of camp finishing a centering pass from Soper at the 9:55 mark to tie the game 2-2; Theron Bensler earned the second assist on the goal as the game was tied after twenty minutes of play. Shots favoured Team Red 16-9 in the first period.
In the opening minute of the second period, Team Blue was assessed a hooking penalty when Maysen Devries was escorted to the box. Despite the extra man, Team Red was unable to break the tie with the power play, however, Team Red pulled in front on an unassisted goal at the 2:04 mark when the ‘Canes 2024 first-round selection Tyden Lafournaise sniped his first of training camp to make it a 3-2 game. Down a goal, Team Blue went to the power play when McKee was assessed a tripping penalty, but they could strike on the power play. At the 8:40 mark, Logan Wormald struck to tie the game to even the game 3-3; Brayden Edwards picked up the lone helper on the equalizing goal. The tie game didn’t last long as just 32-seconds later Will Scott had a point shot slip through Murphy to put Team Red back in front 4-3 with just over half a period remaining; Grady McNish was credited with the assist. Team Red struck again when Berger found the net for his second goal of the game to extend the lead to 5-3 before Landen Ward scored his first goal of camp at the 19:29 mark into an empty net to round out the scoring leading Team Red to a 6-3 victory. Shots in the contest favoured Team Red 35-26.
