Calgary, AB<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Calgary Hitmen have signed 2009-born forward Grady Anaka to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.<\/p>\n

The Calgary Hitmen listed Anaka in the spring of 2025. The forward from Sherwood Park, AB, played the last two seasons with the Okanagan Colorado AAA programs, finishing the 2025-26 season at over a point per game with 26 goals, 30 assists for 56 points in 41 games. Anaka was integral in his team winning the 2026 USA Hockey Youth Tier 16U National Championship, finishing the tournament with 8 points (2G,6A) in six games.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cWe are excited that Grady has chosen to come back to Alberta to start his junior hockey career. He had an outstanding season with Okanagan Colorado and was an impactful player for a team that won a national championship. The Calgary Hitmen drafted Mattersdorfer in the second round, 43rd<\/sup> overall in the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft. Hailing from Lethbridge, Alberta, the forward is coming off the 2025-26 season with the Lethbridge Golden Hawks U15 AAA, \u00a0averaging over two points per game. The forward put up impressive numbers with 29 goals and 49 assists for 88 points in 34 games. Post regular season, Mattersdorfer recorded 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points in 11 playoff games in Provincials.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cEaston is the type of player we covet in the WHL prospects draft. He is competitive, skilled with very good hockey sense. His performance in the playoffs and provincial tournament for his team shows that he is an impactful player in big moments. Calgary, AB<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 The Calgary Hitmen are pleased to announce Cass Bruni as the club’s new General Manager. Garry Davidson will assume a Hockey Operations Advisory role where he will continue to support the club’s hockey operations.<\/p>\n

Cass Bruni came to the Calgary Hitmen in 2017, serving as their video coach until 2020 before transitioning to the team\u2019s scouting staff for four seasons. In 2024, Bruni took on the role of Assistant General Manager, working closely with Davidson in building the Calgary Hitmen program over the past two seasons.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cI am honoured to lead the Hitmen as we aspire to be the premier junior hockey development program in North America. I would like to thank CSEC ownership, Robert Hayes, President and CEO, and Mike Moore, Vice President of the Calgary Hitmen, for their confidence in me as I take on this tremendous opportunity,\u201d said General Manager Cass Bruni.<\/div>\n
With this transition, Garry Davidson will move into a Hockey Operations advisory role. Davidson served as General Manager of the Everett Silvertips from 2012 to 2021 before joining the Calgary Hitmen as Director of Player Personnel from 2021 to 2023 and as General Manager from 2023-2026. He has played a key role in elevating the Hitmen program and was named a finalist for WHL Executive of the Year in consecutive seasons.<\/div>\n

\u201cWe have planned this transition for a few seasons and today is great step forward for the Hitmen organization. Garry has been instrumental in the success of our team since he joined us and has been impactful in our playoff success in the past two seasons while also mentoring Cass,\u201d said Moore. \u201cCass brings a strong process mindset from his engineering degree as well as a sound strategic approach gained from his law degree and professional background. His ten years with the Hitmen have also provided him the foundation for his role as General Manager. We are excited to have Cass and Garry as part of the Hitmen organization.\u201d<\/div>\n

Calgary, AB<\/span>\u00a0\u2013<\/strong> The Calgary Hitmen selected a total of eight players at the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft, held by the league office online on Thursday. In all, the Hitmen selected five forwards, twodefencemen and one goaltender.<\/p>\n

The Hitmen traded up in the second round to select goaltender Owen Ryan 36th<\/span> overall with their first pick. Ryan is a 6\u20192 goaltender from White Bear Lake, Minnesota who recorded a 0.949 SV% and 1.34 GAA in 23 games played as an underage player in Minnesota High School Hockey.<\/p>\n

Calgary, AB\u00a0\u2013<\/strong> The Calgary Hitmen \u00a0have been eliminated from the 2026 WHL playoffs falling to the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-2.<\/p>\n

Medicine Hat opened the scoring six minutes in with a goal from Noah Davidson. Calgary wasted no time evening the score with Blake Vanek scoring his first goal of the playoffs.<\/p>\n

The second period saw the Tigers regain the lead with Vasi Vaisanen and Jonas Woo scoring to make it 3-1. Ethan Moore would score five minutes into the third period to put the Hitmen within one. It. Would be the veteran\u2019s eighth consecutive playoff goal. Kaden Stengrim and Ethan Neutens would both score for the Tigers to seal the 5-2 victory and take the series.<\/p>\n
