Hitmen Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer Raises Over $11,300
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club and our community partner TELUS are proud to announce the third annual Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer Campaign raised more than $11,300 to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF) Prairies/NWT Region with funds for research grants and community health projects including breast cancer prevention and education, screening, diagnosis, treatment and care.Funds were raised by fans through a Game Worn Third Jersey and Pink Helmet online auction and a Team Autographed Jersey raffle. In addition, 50/50 proceeds and on-site donations from the October 29 Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer game also supported the cause. The TELUS Go Pink campaign continues until December 31, whereby $25 from each TELUS pink Blackberry Curve 9360 sold plus an additional $5 with each purchase of select pink phone accessories will add even more to the total donated to the CBCF.
“Our goal was to increase breast cancer awareness and make a significant contribution to support the Foundation,” said Mike Moore, Calgary Hitmen director of Business Operations. “Thanks to the huge support we received from our fans and our community partner TELUS we are one step closer to finding a cure for this disease.”
“It is truly inspiring to see how a dedicated group of passionate individuals and corporate partners can make a difference, and we are making a difference,” explained Willow Carriere, development officer of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Prairies/NWT Region. “The current five-year survival rate for a woman diagnosed with breast cancer has increased to 88 per cent, largely as a result of improvements in screening, treatment and support from community and corporate partners such as the Calgary Hitmen and TELUS.”
“It was great to see Hitmen fans came out in pink to support this Campaign at the October 29 game,” added Carriere. “Thank you for bringing us one step closer to reaching our goal of a future without breast cancer.”
In three years, the Calgary Hitmen Hockey Mums Fight Breast Cancer Campaign has raised $58,548 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Prairies/NWT Region.
