Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen collected a point in a 3-2 shootout loss to the visiting Kamloops Blazers on Sunday afternoon.

A late tying goal and a career high 44 save performance from goaltender Aidan Hesse kept the Hitmen in the game until the very end, but Calgary ultimately fell to the Kamloops Blazers in a shootout.

The first period went scoreless despite power play opportunities for both teams. The scoring opened midway through the second when Eli Tverdovsky found the back of the net at the 6:45 mark to give Kamloops the lead. Julien Maze would respond later in the frame, tying the game with his sixth goal of the season and his 150th career point.

With the game tied heading into the third, Owen Cooper broke the deadlock with a shorthanded goal just under five minutes into the period to put the Blazers back in front. Rookie forward Grady Anaka would provide the answer for Calgary, scoring his fifth goal of the season with 7:19 remaining to even the score once again.

A late power-play opportunity gave Calgary a chance to secure the win in regulation, but Kamloops goaltender Logan Edmonstone stood tall to force overtime. The Hitmen would find themselves shorthanded in the extra frame but continued their perfect penalty kill, successfully shutting down the Blazers' power play to send the game to a shootout.

River Arnason was the lone shooter to score, finding the back of the net in the third round to secure the extra point for Kamloops. Calgary now sits tied for fifth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 8-6-0-1.

The Hitmen open their first extended road trip of the season this coming week with a trio of games in Saskatchewan. It all begins in Prince Albert on Wednesday, Nov. 4 with a date with the Raiders followed by games on back-to-back days starting in Saskatoon on Friday, Nov. 6 before culminating in Swift Current Saturday, Nov. 7 against the Broncos. Calgary will then host Lethbridge on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 7:00 p.m. before two more games on the road with stops in Medicine Hat on Friday, Nov.13 and Lethbridge on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen closed out three games in three days with a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory over the visiting Saskatoon Blades. A third period comeback by Saskatoon forced overtime, but captain Carter Sanderson played the hero, scoring his 15th goal of the season in extra time to secure two points for Calgary.

Ben Bowtell opened the scoring for Saskatoon just four minutes into the game, but Calgary responded with four consecutive. Artem Katsuro netted his seventh of the season before Landon Amrhein scored his first of the year just over a minute later to give the Hitmen a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.

Brennan Brown sparked his team with a tilt against Saskatoon’s Kaden Allen before Andrei Molgachev capitalized on a Saskatoon turnover to extend Calgary’s lead. Brown then added the Hitmen’s fourth goal just 2:52 into the third period. The momentum shifted from there as Hunter Laing and Jordan Martin found the back of the net to bring the Blades within one. With just under three minutes remaining, Kain Martinuik tied the game to force overtime.

In the extra frame, Julien Maze fired a shot on net, and Sanderson was there to collect the rebound and seal the 5-4 victory for Calgary. The win moves the Hitmen into second place in the Eastern Conference, tied with the Red Deer Rebels for first in the Central Division. Calgary’s record improves to 8-5-0-0.
