RECAP: Hitmen Win Last Regular Season Home Game 8-5 vs Hurricanes
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen played their last regular season home game of the year welcoming the Lethbridge Hurricanes to the Scotiabank Saddledome. It was a high scoring affair, with the Hitmen skating away with an 8-5 victory.
Calgary opened the scoring just 30 seconds in on a goal from Blake Vanek, quickly followed by Caine Wilke to make it 2-0. Lethbridge responded with back-to-back goals from Andrew Petruk and Gavin Lesiuk to tie the game. Ethan Moore restored Calgary’s lead in the final five minutes of the period, and Ty Meunier extended it to 4-2 with a power play marker.
In the second period, Lethbridge once again evened the score. Lesiuk netted his second of the game, followed by a goal from Lukas Lima. Harrison Lodewyk responded quickly with his 17th of the season to put Calgary back on top. With under a minute remaining, Kayden Longley tied it again at 5-5 heading into the third.
The third period belonged to Calgary, as Vanek and Lodewyk each scored their second goals of the game, while Keaton Jundt added an empty netter to seal the 8-5 final.
Calgary swept the three stars, with graduating players Ethan Moore (1G, 1A), Axel Hurtig (1A, +4), and Harrison Lodewyk (2G, 1A) all recognized in their final regular season home game of their WHL careers.
The Calgary Hitmen will face the Brandon Wheat Kings in Round 1 of the 2026 WHL Playoffs, with Game 1 set for Friday, March 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Tickets are available at HitmenHockey.com/Tickets.
Calgary has one game remaining on their 68-game regular season schedule and that will be played tomorrow, Sunday, Mar. 22 in Edmonton. Game time against the Oil Kings is 4:00 p.m. at Rogers Place.
