RECAP: Hitmen Take Battle of Alberta with 5-2 Win Over Oil Kings
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen extended their winning streak to three games tonight, skating to a 5-2 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Landon Amrhein opened the scoring just under five minutes into the game, finishing on a breakaway after receiving a pass from Andrei Molgachev and beating Ethan Simcoe five hole. The second period belonged to Edmonton. After Calgary missed on a penalty shot opportunity by Keaton Judt, momentum swung in favor of the Oil Kings, who received goals from Landon Hanson and Blake Fiddler just 38 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead.

Trailing by one heading into the final frame, the Hitmen responded with four unanswered goals. Axel Hurtig tied the game with a one timer from the point off a feed from Wyatt Pisarczyk. Julien Maze followed with what proved to be the game winning goal and his 23rd of the season. With Simcoe on the bench and the Edmonton net empty, Molgachev and Maze added two more insurance markers to seal the win.

With the victory, Calgary improves to 25-12-6-1, remaining fourth in the Eastern Conference and now sitting just 10 points back of the Oil Kings with two games in hand.
Calgary opens a stretch of five straight games on the road beginning Friday, Jan. 30 in Lethbridge. Puck drop is 7:00 p.m. at VisitLethbridge.com Arena. The Hitmen will then head east to play four games in five days, beginning in Saskatoon on Tuesday, Feb. 3 (7:00 p.m.) before stops in Prince Albert on Wednesday, Feb. 4 (7:00 p.m.), Brandon on Friday, Feb. 6 (7:00 p.m.) and Regina on Saturday, Feb. 7 (6:00 p.m.). Calgary is then back home on Wednesday, Feb. 11 to welcome the Swift Current Broncos to Scotiabank Saddledome for a 7:00 p.m. start.
