RECAP: Hitmen Return to Win Column in Dominate 5-1 Win over Rebels
Red Deer, AB – The Calgary Hitmen capped off a stretch of four straight road games with a dominant 5-1 win in Red Deer on Wednesday night.
The Rebels opened the scoring five minutes in on the power play, with Tyson Yaremko finding the back of the net. That would be Red Deer’s lone goal of the night, with the Hitmen responding with five unanswered.
Ethan Moore tied the game with his 17th goal of the season before Andrei Molgachev followed up just 43 seconds later, scoring his 17th on the power play to give Calgary the lead heading into the second period. Late in the middle frame, Blake Vanek extended the lead, tipping home a point shot from Calder Hamilton for his fifth goal in a Hitmen uniform.

Wyatt Pisarczyk made it 4-1 early in the third, finishing off an impressive passing play from Keaton Jundt and Kale Dach. With Red Deer goaltender Matthew Kondro on the bench, Julien Maze sealed the victory with an empty-net goal to round out the scoring.

Aidan Hesse was stellar in goal, stopping 35 shots to earn first star honours. Maze (1G, 2A) was named third star, recording his 15th multi-point game of the season.
With the win, Calgary moves into sole possession of fourth place in the Eastern Conference, improving to 23-12-6-1 on the season.
Calgary is back on home ice for the first time in 10 days tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 24, as they welcome the Regina Pats. Puck drop is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome in the RE/MAX presents Be a Superhero for Chrildren’s Miracle Network game. Hitmen players will be rocking custom superhero themed jerseys and wear capes during warmup. Those jerseys will be sold in an online auction with proceeds to benefit the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
