RECAP: Hitmen Fall to Vees 4-3 in Overtime
The Calgary Hitmen earned a point in a hard-fought matchup against the Penticton Vees, facing the expansion franchise for the first time, but ultimately fell 4-3 in overtime.
Penticton opened the scoring within the first five minutes, with Diego Johnson finding the back of the net to give the Vees a 1-0 lead after the first. The home side extended its advantage midway through the second period when Jacob Kvasnick scored to make it 2-0.
Calgary responded with Keaton Jundt’s seventh goal of the season to get on the board, followed by an impressive individual effort from Blake Vanek to tie the game. Louis Wehmann restored Penticton’s lead in the final minute of regulation, but Rylan Ng answered with six seconds left in the period to even the score once again. The third period would go scoreless, ultimately forcing overtime.Ryden Evers scored at the 3:07 mark to secure the 4-3 overtime win and the extra point for the Vees.
Calgary remains fourth in the Eastern Conference with 51 points and a season record of 22-11-6-1.
The Hitmen now return to Alberta for road games in Medicine Hat on Jan. 20 and Red Deer on Jan. 23. All games can be streamed for free on Victory+.
