RECAP: Hitmen Fall to Tigers in Shootout
Medicine Hat, AB – The Calgary Hitmen picked up a point in a 7-6 shootout loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Saturday night.
Kadon McCann opened the scoring for Medicine Hat less than five minutes into the first period, but Calgary quickly took control with three unanswered goals. Ethan Moore got the Hitmen on the board with a power-play marker, followed shortly by another power-play goal from Harrison Lodewyk to make it 2-1. Less than a minute later, Ben MacBeath buried his fifth of the season to extend the lead. Veeti Vaisanen closed the gap for the Tigers, but Andrei Molgachev responded to restore Calgary’s two-goal advantage heading into the intermission.
Vaisanen struck again early in the second to pull Medicine Hat within one, but Brandon Gorzynski answered with his 10th of the season, with Lodewyk following suit adding his second power-play goal of the night to put Calgary up 6-3. The Tigers narrowed the score again when Noah Davidson made it 6-4 heading into the final frame.
Medicine Hat continued their push in the third, tying the game with goals from Liam Ruck and Yaroslav Bryzgalov to force overtime. Calgary killed off a critical Tigers power play in the extra frame to keep the game alive, but the shootout ultimately decided the outcome. Kale Dach scored for the Hitmen, while Davidson and Ruck converted for Medicine Hat, securing the win in the seventh round.
Calgary returns home to Scotiabank Saddledome to host the Tigers in a rematch tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 23 for Farley’s Birthday Bash powered by RAM.
