RECAP: Hitmen Fall To Tigers 4-3
Medicine Hat, AB – The Calgary Hitmen returned to Alberta tonight, stopping in Medicine Hat to take on the Tigers, but came up just short in a tight 4-3 loss.
The Hitmen opened the scoring with Shaun Hildebrandt’s third goal of the season. Medicine Hat responded late in the first period, tying the game on a power play goal from Liam Ruck. Calgary controlled much of the opening frame, outshooting the Tigers 14-4.
Medicine Hat took control in the second period with goals from Flames prospect Andrew Basha and Jonas Woo. The Tigers extended their lead to 4-1 midway through the third period when Noah Davidson found the back of the net.
On the power play, Andrei Molgachev scored his 16th of the season to bring the Hitmen within two. With goaltender Eric Tu pulled for the extra attacker, Rylan Ng made it a one goal game with just nine seconds remaining in regulation however it wouldn’t be enough with Calgary running out of time, falling 4-3.
Eric Tu earned third star, stopping 27 shots. The goaltender also reached the milestone of 1,000 career saves in the contest. The hitmen remain fourth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 22-12-6-1.
Calgary has one more road game remaining this week when they head to Red Deer on Friday, Jan. 23 to visit the Rebels. The Hitmen are then back home the following night on Saturday, Jan. 24 against the Regina Pats. Puck drop is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome in the RE/MAX presents Be a Superhero for Children’s Miracle Network game. Hitmen players will be rocking custom superhero themed jerseys and wear capes during warmup. Those jerseys will be sold in an online auction with proceeds to benefit the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
