RECAP: Hitmen Fall to Rebels 2-1 in Shootout
Red Deer, AB – The Calgary Hitmen’s five-game win streak was snapped with a 2-1 shootout loss to the Red Deer Rebels on Friday night at the Peavey Mart Centrium.
Goaltender Anders Miller was stellar in net, making 35 saves, but the Hitmen struggled offensively, managing only 21 shots through three periods. Rylan Ng provided Calgary’s lone goal in the second period at 6:34, tipping in a shot from the point by Kalem Parker. Red Deer answered with a goal from Derek Thurston, who fired a puck from the neutral zone past Miller to tie the game with just under five minutes remaining in the second. The third period was dominated by the Rebels, who outshot Calgary 14-1, but the score remained tied, pushing the game into overtime. Extra time would solve nothing, with the game needing to be decided in a shootout.
