RECAP: Hitmen Complete Comeback Winning 4-3 in Overtime vs Pats
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen returned to the win column in thrilling fashion on Sunday, coming back from a three goal deficit to defeat the Regina Pats 4-3 in overtime.
Regina opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Zach Moore. The Pats added two more in the second period, with Ruslan Karimov and Maddox Shultz extending the lead to three heading into the final frame.
Calgary’s first goal didn’t come until the second half of the third period, when Ben MacBeath scored on the power play. With just under four minutes remaining, Ethan Moore pulled the Hitmen within one with his 24th goal of the season. With 1:43 left on the clock, Blake Vanek was left alone in front of the net and tied the game, forcing overtime.
Just 1:02 into the extra frame, Julien Maze finished a pass from Hunter Aura to complete the comeback and secure the 4-3 victory.
Calgary remains fourth in the Eastern Conference, four points ahead of the Brandon Wheat Kings and six points behind the Edmonton Oil Kings for third place. The Hitmen have six games remaining in the regular season schedule, evenly split with three at home and three on the road.
Calgary wraps up their three-game homestand on Wednesday, Mar. 11 in a potential playoff preview with the Brandon Wheat Kings. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome. The Hitmen will then head to Red Deer on Saturday, Mar. 14 before returning home to host Edmonton the following day on Sunday, Mar. 15 in a 5:00 p.m. puck drop at the ‘Dome
