RECAP: Calgary Moves Into Tie for First with Win over Oil Kings
The Calgary Hitmen are now tied for first in the Eastern Conference following their 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Wednesday afternoon.
The game remained scoreless until the second period, when Hunter Aura broke the deadlock with a one-time blast from the point, assisted by Carson Wetsch and David Adaszynski. Brandon Gorzynski then extended the lead, scoring his 15th goal of the season on the power play after collecting Kalem Parker’s rebound.

Edmonton responded in the third period with a power-play goal from Adam Jecho to cut the deficit to one. However, Carson Wetsch answered back, netting his 31st goal of the year to restore Calgary’s two-goal lead.

With under four minutes left, Rylan Roersma brought Edmonton back within one. With the Ethan Simcoe on the bench, Edmonton made on last push, but Calgary held on for a 3-2 victory. With he win, the Hitmen have points in their last 10.
Daniel Hauser earned his eighth straight win, making 26 saves and earning first-star honors. He is now just two wins away from becoming the WHL’s all-time leader in wins, with 121—one behind Nolan Meier.

The Hitmen are now tied for first place in the Eastern Conference with the Medicine Hat Tigers, with one game in hand. They are also just four points behind the league-leading Everett Silvertips.
Calgary is back on the road on Saturday, Mar. 15 for a 6:00 p.m. start in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes. It’s then back home on Sunday, Mar. 16 when the Hitmen host Edmonton at 2:00 p.m. in another Sunday Funday presented by Brookfield Residential.
