RECAP: Calgary Falls to Swift Current 3-1
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen’s four game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night with a 3-1 loss to the Swift Current Broncos at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Swift Current carried a 1-0 lead through two periods after Hudson Darby opened the scoring just past the midway mark of the first. Calgary had an opportunity to tie the game early in the third on the power play, but it was Carter Moen who struck instead, burying a shorthanded goal to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
The Hitmen responded later in the period, with Ethan Moore netting his 21st of the season on the power play to cut the deficit to one. Calgary pressed for the equalizer with Aidan Hesse pulled for the extra attacker, but Trae Johnson sealed it with an empty-netter to secure a 3-1 final for Swift Current.
Calgary remains fourth in the Eastern Conference, eight points back of the Edmonton Oil Kings for third place with a game in hand. Their record sits at 29-14-5-1.
The Hitmen will open a busy three-game long weekend on Friday, Feb. 13, when they start a two-game set with the Edmonton Oil Kings. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome. The return match goes the next day in the Alberta capital at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14. Calgary then heads home for a Family Day Monday, Feb. 15. matinee against the Everett Silvertips. Game time at the ‘Dome is 1:00 p.m.
