RECAP: Calgary falls to Brandon 6-4
Calgary, AB – The Calgary Hitmen welcomed the Brandon Wheat Kings for their final meeting of the regular season, falling 6-4.
Julien Maze opened the scoring for Calgary on the power play, recording his 50th career goal. Brandon responded late in the first period with back-to-back goals from Joby Baumuller and Chase Surkan.
Andrei Molgachev tied the game in the second period with another power play marker for Calgary. Brandon restored their lead just over a minute later with a goal from Prabh Bhatthal. With four minutes remaining in the second, Keaton Jundt evened the score once again, making it 3-3 heading into the final frame.
Brandon took the lead for the third time with goals from Max Lavoie and Jacobson, making it 5-3. Late in the period, Maze gave Calgary a chance, scoring his second power play goal of the night to pull the Hitmen within one.
With Eric Tu on the bench for the extra attacker, Calgary’s comeback effort fell short as Brett Wilson found the empty net to seal the 6-4 final. Calgary remains in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, just two points ahead of the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Calgary plays a pair of games this coming weekend. The first sees the Hitmen head to Red Deer on Saturday, Mar. 14 for a 6:00 p.m. start. It’s then back home to host Edmonton on Sunday, Mar. 15 in a 5:00 p.m. puck drop at Scotiabank Saddledome.
