RECAP: Calgary Continues Hot Streak with 3-1 Win Over Brandon
Brandon, MB – The Calgary Hitmen extended their win streak to six games with a decisive 3-1 victory over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Sunday night.
Kale Dach opened the scoring seven minutes into the first period, finishing a two-on-one passing play with Brandon Gorzynski. In the second, rookie defenceman Kade Meyer netted his first career WHL goal with a point shot on the man advantage to make it 2-0. Gorzynski capped off the scoring in the third, burying a between-the-legs, backdoor feed from Landon Amrhein for another power-play marker.
Brandon’s Gunnar Gleasman got the visitors on the board late in the third, but that was as close as they’d get. The Hitmen closed out the game strong to earn their second win of the weekend. The Hitmen outshot the home team 40-20 with goaltender Eric Tu stopping 19 shots for his sixth straight victory. He now leads the league with a 1.79 GAA and a .938 save percentage.
With the win, Calgary improves to 10-3-1-0, earning points in nine straight games.
The Hitmen road trip resumes in Regina on Tuesday, Nov. 4 in a 6:00 p.m. MT start against the Pats. This season-long six-game swing will also take the club to Moose Jaw on Wednesday (Nov. 5) and Swift Current next Friday (Nov. 7) before ending in Saskatoon on Saturday, Nov. 8. The next Hitmen home game isn’t until Friday, Nov. 14 when they welcome the Blades in the back half of a home and home set.
