Hitmen Secure First Preseason Win over Rebels
The Calgary Hitmen opened up preseason play on Friday night when they welcomed the Red Deer Rebels to Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut’ina Nation. Calgary came out victorious with a 1-0 win over the visitors.
Ben Kindel would net one as a Calgary power play expired just over eight minutes into the first period, with helpers from David Adaszysnki and Keets Fawcett. This would remain the lone goal of the game. Calgary did not come up short on chances with six power play opportunties and 40 shots on net. On the other side Calgary would finish with a perfect record on the penatly kill, killing off all four man advantages for Red Deer.
Calgary’s performance was dominant outshooting Red Deer 40-13. Ethan Buenaventura would earn first star with his 13 save shutout.
Tonight’s game saw the debut of Calgary’s new coaching staff with Head Coach Paul McFarland and Assistant coaches David Liffiton and Ben Wilson at the helm.
Calgary now travels to Medicine Hat to face the Tigers for their second game of the preseason at Co-op Place. Game time is 7:00 pm MT. Fans can follow along at HitmenHockey.com.
The next time Calgary returns home is to conclude the preseason welcoming the Edmonton Oil Kings to Sikska Deerfoot Sportsplex on Sunday September 15th. Game time is 4:00 pm and is free to attend.
