Hitmen Pick a Point in 4-3 OT Loss in Brandons
The Calgary Hitmen closed out the road trip tonight with a stop in Brandon to face the Wheat Kings. Calgary gave up three one goal leads in a 4-3 overtime loss. Ben Kindel led the team once again, scoring two goals and registering an assist. Calgary’s power play was also a factor with two of their three goals coming from special teams.
Calgary kicked of the scoring with a power play goal from Ben Kindel. Brandon had an answer a few minutes later with a goal from Nolan Flamand to even the score. It would be Kindel once again, potting one unassisted just after the ten minute mark of the second. Joby Baumuller tied the game from Brandon once again in the last minute of the period to make it 2-2 heading into the final frame. Calgary’s last power play goal would come from Carter Yakemchuk for his fourth of the season to restore Calgary’s lead. With 55 seconds remaining, Brandon’s Luke Shipley would score and force the game to extra minutes. Brandon would seal Calgary’s fate at the 2:32 mark with Marcus Ngyuen ending overtime making the final score 4-3.
Ben Kindel (2g,1a) earned first star extending his point streak to six games. Calgary outshot Brandon 39-31.
Calgary returns home to face the Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Note the 6:00 p.m. start at Scotiabank Saddledome. Calgary then heads to Lethbridge to face the Hurricanes on Friday, Nov. 1 before returning to the ‘Dome to host Red Deer on Monday, Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m.
