Four Hitmen to Attend NHL Rookie Camps
Four Calgary Hitmen players are heading to NHL Rookie Camps this week. Axel Hurtig (Calgary Flames), Carson Wetsch (San Jose Sharks), Carter Yakemchuk (Ottawa Senators), Oliver Tulk (LA Kings).
Axel Hurtig is in his first season in the WHL and with the Hitmen after being drafted by Calgary in last year’s CHL Import Draft. The defenceman for Hogas, Sweden was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the 2023 NHL Draft in the seventh round, 208th overall. The defenceman will participate in the Young Stars Classic will take place Sept. 13-16 at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) in Penticton, BC. The tournament features prospects from the Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets.
Carson Wetsch is in his third season with the Hitmen. He was drafted this past summer in the 2024 NHL Draft 82nd overall by the San Jose Sharks. The forward will be taking part in the 2024 Rookie Faceoff in Los Angeles, which takes place from Sept. 13-16 at the Toyota Sports Performance Center. The tournament will feature prospects from the Sharks, Utah Hockey Club, Seattle Kraken, Anaheim Ducks, Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings.
Also participating the the Rookie Face-Off is 19 year-old forward Oliver Tulk who will be taking the ice as part of the LA Kings roster as a free agent invite. The forward was invited to the club’s development camp back in June and is coming off an impressive 80 point (40g, 40a) season.
Carter Yakemchuk is entering his third season with the Calgary Hitmen after coming off a recording breaking season registering 71 points (30g, 41a). He was drafted by the Ottawa Senators 7th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft. Yakemchuk will be participating in the Prospects Challenge which will feature prospects from the Senators, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, New Jersey Devils, and Pittsburgh Penguins. All games will be played at the LECOM Harbor Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
