Poor Start Results In A Loss In Tri-City
The Vancouver Giants fell to the Tri-City Americans 5-2 Saturday night at the Toyota Centre in Kennewick, Washington.
The Americans got out of the gate in a hurray, scoring on the power play just over 2 minutes into the game. They would add another goal six minutes later to make it 2-0 through 20 minutes of play.
In the second period, Vancouver’s best offensive chance was a Neil Manning slap shot that hit the post on an early power play. The Americans would counter with two more goals to lead 4-0 after 40 minutes. That would spell the end of the night for Brendan Jensen as he was pulled after giving up 4 goals on 24 shots.
The Americans made it 5-0 1:24 into the third period courtesy of Brendan Shinnimin as he potted his 2nd of the night. The Giants though would not quit. MIchael Burns and Spencer Bennett each scored power play goals to cut the lead to three goals with 6:40 left. WIth his goal, Bennett extended his point streak to 8 games. He has a point in every game as a member of the Giants. That would be it for the scoring as Vancouver came up short, losing 5-2. Mark Segal made 8 saves in relief. The Giants finished the night 2-for-4 on the power play, while Tri-City was 1-for-3.
Vancouver now heads to Seattle to take on Thunderbirds Sunday night. Game time is 5:00pm. The pregame show begins at 4:30pm on AM 650.
