Hurricanes Storm Past Giants
For the second time this season, the Lethbridge Hurricanes came into town and came away with a victory, defeating the Vancouver Giants 6-3 Tuesday night at the Pacific Coliseum. Philip Tot had 5 points in the victory for the Hurricanes. The Giants were without Adam Morrison, David Musil, Matt Bellerive, Dalton Sward, Brendan Gallagher, and Jackson Houck due to injury.
The visitors took advantage of an early turnover to open the scoring just over 2 minutes into the game. Jordan Martinook would tie the game with his 27th goal of the year 10:15 into the frame. Lethbridge restored their lead before the period was out, again scoring off a turnover to go ahead 2-1. However, with a delayed penalty against the Hurricanes, Blake Orban’s point shot went off a body in front and past Liam Liston for his 1st career WHL goal to tie the game 2-2 after 20 minutes. It was a wild opening period in which the Canes outshot the Giants 18-15.
Both teams tightened things up in the second period and just one goal was scored. For the third time on the night the Hurricanes took the lead, this time on the power play to go up 3-2 through two periods.
The Giants started the third period on the man advantage and would make it count. Marek Tvrdon scored his 17th of the season to tie the game 3-3. Unfortunately, just 58 seconds later the Hurricanes would score to regain their lead. It would prove to be the game winner. They would add two more goals, a power play marker and an empty netter, to make it a 6-3 final. The Giants finished 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Hurricanes went 2-for-3. Final shots were 41-36 in favour of Vancouver.
