Giants Struggle Vs. Kelowna
The Vancouver Giants fell to the Kelowna Rockets 3-1 Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum in front of the largest crowd of the season, 14,115 fans. With the loss the Giants losing streak is now at 8 games. They have also lost 5 straight games to the Rockets.
The Giants did not get the start they wanted as Kelowna opened up the scoring midway through the first period. Vancouver was outshot 10-6 in the first period and trailed 1-0. It was the 8th straight game Vancouver has trailed after 20 minutes.
Kelowna added to their lead in the second period thanks to Geordie Wudrick’s 2nd goal of the game and 42nd of the season. They would score once more before the period was out to lead 3-0 through 40 minutes. Vancouver managed just 3 shots on net in the second frame.
The Giants were better in the third period, but it was too little too late. Neil Manning scored in the final minute on the power play to spoil Adam Brown’s shutout bid, but in the end Kelowna earned the victory, 3-1. Brendan Jensen suffered the loss in net making 26 saves. Vancouver finished 1-for-3 on the power play, while Kelowna was 0-for-3.
These two teams will be back at it tomorrow night in the back end of the home and home series at Prospera Place in Kelowna. Game time is 7:05pm. The pregame show begins at 6:35pm on AM 650.
