Giants Fall To Tri-City 5-1
The Vancouver Giants suffered their third straight loss, falling 5-1 to the Tri-City Americans Sunday at the Pacific Coliseum. They remain in 2nd place in the B.C. division, 6 points back of Kelowna with 7 games remaining in the regular season.
Brendan Shinnimin opened the scoring just nine seconds into the game putting the visitors up 1-0. They would add a goal in the final minute of the frame to go up 2-0 through 20 minutes. Both Teal Burns and Spencer Bennett left the game with upper body injuries and did not return to action. Tri-City outshot Vancouver 10-3 in the opening frame.
The Giants cut the lead to one on a nice individual effort from Michael Burns as he potted his 15th of the year. However, the Americans would score another late goal, this time with 50 seconds left in the period, to restore their two goal lead. 3-1 Tri-City after 40 minutes.
The Americans would add two more in the third period to make it a 5-1 final. Mark Segal suffered the loss in net, making 19 saves. Vancouver finished 0-for-3 on the power play, while Tri-City was 2-for-3.
Vancouver is back in action Wednesday when they play host to the Chilliwack Bruins. Game time is 7:00pm at the Pacific Coliseum. The pregame show begins at 6:30pm on AM 650.
