Schmidt and Canada Win Gold at Hlinka Gretzky Cup
Edmonton, Alta. – Vancouver Giants forward Cameron Schmidt helped Canada win their 25th all-time Gold Medal at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup on Saturday night, after the Canadians defeated Czechia 2-1.
It was Canada’s third consecutive Gold Medal.
Liam Kilfoil (Halifax Mooseheads) opened the scoring for Canada 6:29 into the first period.
Then, in the final minute of the opening frame, Schmidt used his speed to drive wide and enter the offensive zone on the right wing, before setting up Caleb Desnoyers in front of the net to extend Canada’s lead to 2-0.

Czechia only got on board in the final minute of the third period with the goalie pulled, making the final score 2-1.
Schmidt finished the tournament with three goals and one assist in five games.
After the 2024 edition of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, Canada has now won 25 gold medals in 33 years of summer under-18 competition, along with three silver medals and one bronze.
