Prince George, B.C. – The Vancouver Giants were shut out 5-0 by the Prince George Cougars on Friday night at the Langley Events Centre.
The Giants’ record falls to 8-12-1-0 this season.

With the win, the Cougars improved their record to 15-6-0-0.
The Cougars struck twice in the opening period, first getting on the board at the 4:40 mark after a deflection from rookie Terik Parascak.
Just a few minutes later, 6-foot-6 forward Hunter Laing, found a loose puck at the side of goal and was able to tuck it in to make the score 2-0.
After 20 minutes, the score was 2-0 for Prince George, while the shots on goal favoured Vancouver 13-11.
Just 2:38 into the second period, the Cougars extended their lead off a power play goal from Hudson Thornton, who blasted home a one-timer from the high slot off a pass from Koehn Ziemmer.
The Cougars took a 3-0 lead into the second intermission, where the shots on goal were even 22-22.
Zac Funk scored a key goal for Prince George 44 seconds in the third period, giving them an even more comfortable lead at 4-0, after he gained the offensive blue line and fired a wrist shot perfectly to the top corner for his 17th goal of the year.
Midway through the third period, Shtrom would make it 5-0 for the visitors with his fifth goal of the season.
THEY SAID IT
“Our kids worked, boy did they work tonight again. Worked real hard. I thought we did a lot of good things and competed real hard tonight. But we lost to a better team tonight. Hats off to them…You look at our lineup tonight, we had I think six or seven regular players out of the lineup tonight, veteran players. I loved what our young kids brought tonight as far as our work ethic and also the structure of the game also too. You’re going to make mistakes, that’s part of the game. It’s a learning experience every time for these young guys. I always say the best experience is experience itself and these guys, you’re going to put them in positions like that and sometimes it’s not always going to work out the way you want it to, but they’re going to learn from that and build from that. – Head Coach Manny Viveiros Post-Game
