LAST TIME OUT
The Vancouver Giants were defeated 6-2 by the Everett Silvertips on Saturday night at the Angel of the Winds Arena.
Scoring both goals for Vancouver was Colton Roberts, his fourth and fifth goals of the season, giving him his first multi-goal game in the WHL.
The Silvertips were powered by three shorthanded goals, two from veteran Austin Roest and one from defenceman Eric Jamieson, while Dominik Rymon, Kyan Grouette and Jesse Heslop also scored.
TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
Tonight is the first of eight meetings between Vancouver and Prince George this season, and the first of three this week alone.
These clubs will battle on Tuesday and Wednesday in Prince George, and then again on Friday at the Langley Events Centre.
Vancouver last met the Cougars on March 12, 2023, which was a 3-2 victory for the Giants. In the nine-game season series in 2022-23, Vancouver went 3-4-1-1.
Tonight will also be a homecoming of sorts for Giants forward Cameron Schmidt, who returns to the lineup in his hometown after a phenomenal World U-17 Hockey Challenge where he clinched the tournament for Canada White.
This season, Prince George has been a scoring machine, averaging nearly five goals for per game (4.94). On home ice, where they are 8-2 so far, they have averaged 5.3 goals for per game. Four of the WHL’s top-10 scorers are Cougars: Zac Funk (2nd, 35 points), Ondrej Becher (T-4th, 31 points), Terik Parascak (T-6th, 30 points) and Riley Heidt (10th, 27 points).
The Giants are 1-7 on the road.
