PREVIEW: Giants Look to Build Off Blowout Win in Visit to Wenatchee on Sunday
Wenatchee, WA – The Vancouver Giants (6-4-0-0) look to build off their most lopsided win of the season when they visit the Wenatchee Wild (3-5-2-0) on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the first of four head-to-head matchups this season.
The G-Men had lots to cheer about in their first home game in more than two weeks last night, as they ran over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders 10-1. This was following an 11-day Alberta road trip where the Giants went 2-3, although two of their losses were by a single goal.
Vancouver has scored a plethora of goals early this season – they lead the WHL with 4.7 goals per game through their first 10 contests, and last night was no exception, with seven different goal scorers.
The Wild enter with a three-game losing streak and have had trouble scoring the last little while, averaging just 1.5 goals per game over their last six. They lost last night to Kamloops 4-1, and were shut out by Kelowna on home ice on Friday 4-0.

TODAY’S MATCHUP
Last season these two teams split the four-game season series, with home ice playing a big role. The Giants outscored the Wild 13-4 in their two home wins, but were outscored 7-2 in two road losses.
Today Vancouver’s high octane offence will go up against a team that has had trouble scoring, with the Wild currently last in the WHL with 2.70 goals per game. They’ve also had multiple injuries at the goaltending position, with Daniel Houser and Brendan Gee currently on the shelf on a week-to-week basis with upper body injuries. That forced them to acquire 19-year-old Zach Zahara from the Medicine Hat Tigers last week, who has already played twice this weekend.
Cameron Schmidt continues to be a focal point for the Giants, as he still leads the WHL in goals with 11 and is now tied for first in points with 18, after he registered three assists last night.
Kenta Isogai is one to watch for the Wild, who had the lone goal for Wenatchee last night. The 20-year-old has four goals and four assists for eight points through his first eight games of the season, after putting up 88 points last season in 64 games (35G-61A).
