PREVIEW: Giants Host Rockets for RE/MAX Presents: Be A Superhero for Children’s Miracle Network
LANGLEY, B.C. – The Vancouver Giants (23-36-1-2) look to bounce back today against the Kelowna Rockets (35-19-6-2) following a tough 6-2 road loss to Kamloops last night.
The Giants’ previous two road games were some of their best all season: they defeated the Tri-City Americans 4-2 on Tuesday and then topped the Rockets 4-3 in overtime on Friday.
Today is RE/MAX Presents: Be a Superhero for Children’s Miracle Network.
Giants players will hit the ice today in custom Batman-themed jerseys, complete with capes for warmups. Fans will have an opportunity to win these one of a kind jerseys through a chuck-a-puck, which will take place in the second intermission. Net proceeds from the chuck-a-puck will go to B.C. Children’s Hospital.

The Giants are honoured to welcome three-year-old Mavrik Turnbull and his family as a special guest for Sunday’s ceremonial puck drop. Last October, a tumour was discovered inside Mavrik that was larger than his head. He has since undergone seven rounds of chemo, two stem cell transplants, tumor reduction surgery and radiation therapy. So far, his tumour has shrunk by 98%. Mavrik is known on his medical unit as “the hockey kid,” often playing hallway hockey in his jersey — even during treatments.
RE/MAX will have a kiosk set up at Sunday’s game at Gate 2, where they will be running a mini-stick entrance giveaway for the first 1,000 fans.

TODAY’S MATCHUP
Today will be Mathis Preston’s first home game since leaving the Jan. 10th game against Wenatchee following an ugly knee-on-knee collision. He returned on the road on Friday following an eight-week absence and has a pair of assists and 10 shots on goal in his two games so far this weekend. Today is also Preston’s 100th career WHL game.
The Rockets responded to their loss to Vancouver on Friday with a 9-2 win last night at home against Victoria. They are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and 13-3-2 in their last 18.
Kelowna is currently with Prince George for third in the Western Conference with 78 points, but they don’t currently hold the first tiebreaker (wins), meaning they are technically in fourth.
Kelowna and Vancouver each have six games remaining. The Giants are 1-4-0 against Kelowna in the season series.
