Leslie, Mirwald get NHL Camp Invites
One current and one former Vancouver Giant are headed to NHL Development camps, which begin today, July 1.
Former goaltender Brett Mirwald, who became the first Giant to win the Del Wilson Trophy as WHL Goaltender of the Year this past season, will be attending Vancouver Canucks Development Camp, while current Giants defenceman Mazden Leslie will be attending Vegas Golden Knights Development Camp.
This is the first NHL camp for Mirwald, while Leslie attended Toronto Maple Leafs prospect camp last fall. Canucks camp runs July 1-5; Vegas’ camp runs July 1-6.
Mirwald had an unforgettable overage season, ranking first in the WHL in saves (1723), first in minutes played (3,190), tied for third in wins (29) and tied for third in save percentage (.913). He was the biggest reason the Giants were able to secure the sixth seed in the Western Conference, logging a record of 29-22-3-0 in 55 appearances. According to SportLogiq, Mirwald ranked first in the WHL in Goals Saved Above Expected (37.3) in the regular season.
