Giants Training Camp Day 2 Recap
Vancouver, B.C. – The second full day of Giants Training Camp took place on Friday, August 30 at the Langley Events Centre, presented by Chevrolet, which included three afternoon scrimmages.
Here were the results:
SCRIMMAGE 1: Team Lucic def. Team Gallagher 5-4
In the first scrimmage, Team Lucic got out to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Ethan McEneany (2006), Blake Chorney (2009) and Luke Wilson (2009), but Team Gallagher stormed back to tie the game 3-3. Hudson Getzlaf (2008) scored first for Team Gallagher, followed by a pair of back-to-back goals from Max Malinousky (2008), which evened the score.
However, defencemen Will Subject and Braydon Riggall each scored for Team Lucic to restore their lead, making it 5-3. Matthew Edwards got one back for Team Gallagher, but that was as close as they’d come, making it a 5-4 final score.
Subject (1G-1A) and Brett Olson (2A) each had multi-point games for Team Lucic.
SCRIMMAGE 2: Team Byram def. Team Gallagher 4-3 (OT)
Richard Wonyeneh (2009) and Aaron Obobaifo (2007) helped get Team Byram out to a 2-0 lead after the first period, but Team Gallagher responded with goals from Adam Titlbach (2006) and Andy Jaemin Kim (2009) to make the score 2-2.
Ryan Lin restored the lead for Team Byram thanks to a great pass from Obobaifo on an odd-man rush, but Team Gallagher wouldn’t go down easy, getting the game’s equalizer with just 1.9 seconds left thanks to Connor Levis (2004).
The two teams begun a five-minute 3-on-3 overtime period that lasted less than a minute, after Cameron Schmidt (2007) roofed one from a tough angle to win the game for Team Byram.
Obobaifo (1G-1A) and Kyren Gronick (2A) each had multi-point games for Team Byram.
SCRIMMAGE 3: Team Lucic def. Team Bryam 4-2
Obobaifo scored again in his second scrimmage to get Team Byram on the board first, but Team Lucic would then score four consecutive goals to take a stranglehold on the game. Riggall, Olson, Chorney and McEneany would all score to make it 4-1.
Late in the game, Tyler Thorpe scored off a pass from Mazden Leslie to make it 4-2.
McEneany (1G-2A) and Jakob Oreskovic (2A) each had multi-point games for Team Lucic.
