Giants to Pick 29th in Wednesday’s CHL Import Draft
Vancouver, B.C. – The 2024 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft is set for tomorrow morning, July 3, at 8:00 a.m. PT, where the Vancouver Giants are expected to make one selection.
The Giants hold the 29th overall pick.
The CHL Import Draft is an annual event in which every club in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) can draft players from outside of North America. The two-round CHL Import Draft will take place online with the order of selection rotating between the clubs of each of the CHL’s three-member leagues.
Each of the last four CHL import drafts have proven fruitful for Vancouver, with 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 each producing a player that had a significant impact with the team.
Forward Fabian Lysell, currently in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins, was selected in 2020 with the 30th pick and set the Giants franchise record for points by a rookie when he tallied 62 (22G-40A) in the 2021-22 season.
In 2021, the Giants selected goaltender Jesper Vikman with the 8th overall pick, who became the team’s starter and played 80 games over two seasons. He is currently in the AHL with the Henderson Silver Knights.
Power forward Samuel Honzek was selected 10th overall in 2022 and became the first ever European captain for the G-Men last year. He was a first-round selection by the Calgary Flames in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Honzek tallied 87 points in 76 games (33G-54A) across two seasons.
Other import draft selections that shone brightly for the Giants include Milos Roman (6th overall, 2017) and Marek Tvrdon (13th overall, 2010).
