5 Giants Prospects to Compete in 2025 WHL Cup
Langley, B.C. – From Wednesday, October 22 through Sunday, October 26, the 2025 WHL Cup takes place in Red Deer, which will showcase the top 2010-born players from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
Five Giants prospects will compete in this tournament: Anthony Cabelka (Team B.C.), Louis-Oscar Holowaychuk (Team B.C.), Ethan Mah (Team B.C.), Crosby Mateychuk (Team Manitoba) and Jakob Schmidt (Team Saskatchewan).

Holowaychuk is the highest Giants draft pick of the five, selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft. He scored 50 goals last year in the U15 Prep division of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) for St. George’s Prep. This season, he has transitioned well to U18 Prep with St. George’s, currently with six points (3G-3A) through his first four games.
Mateychuk was the Giants next pick last spring, picked at number 13 overall. After recording 71 points in just 31 games in his WHL Draft season for the U15 Eastman Selects, he has started his U18 season on fire, with 11 points (5G-6A) in his first six games in 2025-26.
Cabelka was a fifth-round selection by the Giants, and has made the jump from U15 Prep to U18 Prep this season with Yale Hockey Academy in the CSSHL. After recording 39 points (17G-22A) in 35 games last season, he has one goal in his first four games in 2025-26 at the U18 level.
Schmidt was also a fifth-round pick by the Giants, and is currently in his first season of U18 AAA with the Prince Albert Mintos. He has one assist in his first eight games and is the only 2010-born defenceman on his team. Last year, he amassed 31 points (10G-21A) in 28 games for the U15 Prince Albert Pirates. Schmidt will be an assistant captain for Team Saskatchewan.
Rounding out the group is Mah, who was selected in the eighth round by Vancouver in May. After totalling 26 points (5G-21A) in 35 games last season for the North Shore Warriors U15 Prep, Mah is now playing for the U18 North Shore Warriors, where he has picked up a pair of assists through four games.
